WINTER TRIP!Friday, January 6, 2012
Apologies for the lack of blogging lately. I've spent the last 2 weeks in the Northeast visiting family and friends over the holidays. Now that I'm back in Portland and back in my studio, I thought I'd post some pictures of my travels...
I spent about a week in northern NH at my folks house, playing in the woods, helping my dad out with various projects, tracking animals, cutting back some of the dead and downed trees there and eating lots of sugar cookies.
I was bummed to arrive and see no snow at all. Lo and behold, when I woke the next morning I was greeted by this!
My parent's drive was looking lovely.
This is a property up the street that my older brother owns. On it is a flagpole from a previous owner. Apparently it was a memorial to the owner's son who died in a helicopter crash in Vietnam. This photo of that spot years later still holds that memorial feel.
So happy to get one of my mom's paintings as a present for christmas! Looks like the area right!
I love these windows at my folk's house.
A super old painting of mine that is still hanging up.
Did some lumberjackin...
Then had an amazing bonfire at dusk with some friends.
Then went with those same friends to the quietest bar I've ever been to in my life. It was great.
Later on found a deer skull while walking in the woods. Me and my dad cleaned it up.
I rang in the New Year in the other Portland.. Portland, Maine! Had a great time with some new acquaintances and some totally random people!
Random, but I really liked this fence... or maybe just the photo of it.
I also really liked this shot too.. a tree branch in an apartment in Portland.
From Portland, I headed to see a friend in Conway, NH. Amongst other things, we checked out his weird and rare comic book collection.
I then hopped a bus to Boston to hang with some friends there. I got a chance to hang out at with my man
Dana and
Kenji's studio in South Boston.

Metalwing
Kenji is the sign painting master.. These old saws he decorated were so sick!
The last stop in Boston before heading back to Portland was the ICA.. the Institute for Contemporary Art. Swoon had a site specific installation at the entrance.
After the ICA, I caught a bus and then a plane and hopped back to Portland. I'm back in the studio now in a whole new year. Happy 2011 to everyone and a good 2012 to come!
HAPPY 2012!Tuesday, January 3, 2012
May you learn something new in 2012! All the best from Zach Johnsen, Zenvironments, and the great Northwoods of NH!
NEW TANK THEORY LINE! NEW TANK THEORY WEBSITE!Tuesday, December 20, 2011
I am pleased to announce the launch of the new Tank Theory tshirt line, Wilderness! This is the first line in over 2 years that I have art directed since rejoining Tank Theory as creative head. I am really excited with the theme and direction of the new line as well as working back with Tank Theory again.
In addition, we have a new website! We have redesigned and streamlined tanktheory.com to reflect a new era in graphic tees. We stripped down the number of pages on the site, eliminated all the image pop ups, increased the image sizes across the board and generally simplified the site. You might also notice a couple big changes. We have done away with the Tshirt of the Month club, an idea we pioneered from the beginning but from which we could never quite keep up with or update frequently enough. Considering the idea has since spread and some of our predecessors have done it better than we ever have, we decided to scrap it. Also absent is the Artist Society section. Not that we have done away with working with some of the most talented artists out there today. We certainly are going to continue in that tradition. To simplify though, we've consolidated the Artist Society tees into the basic, all encompassing, Tshirts section.
In celebration of the new launch and new line we are having a special offer for a limited time. Upon checkout, enter "Wilderness" into the promo code box for 15% off your entire order!
Thanks and enjoy!
